D.C. area prepares for burst of winter weather
Cherrydale Hardware Store is ready for whatever comes Friday night - but so far this winter's been a bust.
In fact, customers weren't buying anything snow-related on Friday afternoon.
It could get dicey, however, especially North and West of the District. A winter weather advisory was issued for the D.C. area and the first mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain will move into the Shenandoah Valley by 10 p.m. and reach the D.C. area by 11 p.m., ABC7 meteorologist Bob Ryan says.
And Maryland State Highway crews are taking no chances. They've been loading up the salt trucks Friday and pre-treating the roadways as the forecast is calling for a mix of snow, sleet before it all eventually turns over to a cold, rain - a slippery sloppy mess starting later Friday and running into Saturday morning.
In Frederick, Md., the state highway administration's plow trucks were loading up and crews were preparing for the weather.
