D.C., Maryland schools closed Monday for New Year's Day holiday
The New Year's Day holiday has come and gone, but it is being recognized Monday in the District and in three counties in Maryland.
In D.C., many places will be closed, including federal and local government offices and local libraries.
In Maryland, the Washington Post reports that schools in Howard, St. Mary's and Charles counties are open. In Virginia, schools are open in Alexandria.
There won't be any mail delivery, except Express mail.
Most banks and courts also will be closed and there won't be any trash or recycling collections.
Sunday traffic regulations will be in effect, and parking meters won't be enforced.
The Washington Post says Metrobus, Metrorail, MetroAccess, DASH, Ride On, Fairfax Connector, ART (Routes 41 and 51), and Ride On will operate on a Sunday schedule.
MARC, Loudoun Bus, MTA Commuter Bus, PRTC Omniride, The Bus and VRE will not be in service. CUE will operate on a modified weekday schedule.
