In a strongly worded letter to the Interior Department, a California GOP congressman asked pointed questions about whether the Occupy D.C. protesters should be allowed to stay in McPherson Square.

The letter, to Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, was sent by Darrell Issa, chairman of the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, which oversees the District.

“While I understand that recent events involving the National Park Service (NPS) have caused additional delays, a month now has passed since my request was sent to the Department,” Issa writes. “If the department cannot provide full written answers and produce responsive documents as requested, the Committee may need to consider the use of compulsory process to deliver these requested items.”

The letter is a follow-up to Issa’s investigation into the Occupy D.C. protesters and whether they can legally stay at the park.

In the letter, he asks for documents relating to the National Park Service’s decision to evict or not evict the protesters. He casts a wide net and also asks for documents from the Park Service, Interior Department and White House related to the Occupy D.C. protesters.
