WASHINGTON (AP) - Federal prosecutors say a man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the assault of a woman in 2000.
Thirty-three-year-old Dewayne Jones of Washington was sentenced Friday. He had pleaded guilty in November to assault with a dangerous weapon and attempted first-degree sexual abuse.
According to government evidence, on Sept. 25, 2000, two women walking in Northeast were accosted by Jones, who had a gun. He told one woman to leave and forced the other woman into an alley, where he assaulted her.
In 2006, the victim's sexual assault kit was sent to a DNA lab for analysis. In 2010, Metropolitan police received information that led them to Jones.
