Dioni Fernandez sentenced to 180 days
January 27, 2012 - 12:27 pm
An MPD officer convicted of attempting to receive stolen property was sentenced to 180 days in jail.
Dioni Fernandez, who's been on the police force for eight years, was arrested in an internal sting operation. A Superior Court judge found him guilty after a four-day trial.
At Friday’s sentencing, Judge Harold Cushenberry said Fernandez’s conduct violated his solemn oath, tarnished the badge and betrayed the public trust.
Fernandez, 35, and two other officers were arrested in March on charges that they arranged to buy iPads, televisions and other electronic equipment that they believed were stolen.
