Duchy Trachtenberg pulls out of 6th District Congressional race
January 4, 2012 - 11:42 am
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Democrat Duchy Trachtenberg has dropped out of the race for Maryland's 6th District Congressional seat due to health reasons.
Trachtenberg announced Wednesday that she is withdrawing because of a recurrence of breast cancer.
The former Montgomery County councilwoman issued a statement saying she was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer last year. She says when she decided to campaign she had a clean bill of health, but must now focus on treatment and recovery.
Democratic state Sen. Rob Garagiola, of Montgomery County, also is running for the Democratic nomination for the seat, which is now held by Republican Rep. Roscoe Bartlett.
