Dulles drug smuggling: Michael Ayodele allegedly caught with nearly two pounds of heroin
Another person has been caught trying to smuggle drugs by Customs agents at Washington Dulles International Airport, just two weeks after another man was caught carrying heroin on a flight from Ghana to Washington, customs officials say.
Authorities say that 19-year-old Michael Babatunde Ayodele was caught with more than two pounds of heroin pellets inside him after flying from Nigeria to Dulles via Kenya and Zurich, Switzerland.
The arrest closely resembles the one made two weeks ago, when agents took 61-year-old Adekunle Titus Adetokubo into custody after allegedly passing a pound of heroin pellets.
Ayodele, who lives in Queens, N.Y., arrived at Dulles on Jan. 16. During a secondary inspection, Customs and Border Protection officers found inconsistencies in his story about visiting family in Nigeria. He then asked to use the bathroom, where he expelled 55 thumb-sized pellets that later tested positive for heroin, authorities say.
He then passed 31 more pellets after being taken to an area hospital, authorities say.
The heroin has a street value of about $78,000.
Ayodele was turned over to ICE and Homeland Security agents.
