Elderly couple robbed of money and medications
An elderly couple in Spotsylvania county are shaken up following an armed robbery at their home early Tuesday morning.
Two armed men forced their way into the Hamilton Street residence of Clyde Hamrick and his wife and demanded money and medications.
Hamrick, 69, and his wife are glad to be alive.
When Hamrick let his dog Alice out about 3 a.m., the dog became agitated and refused to go back into the house.
“I heard a click and I turned around and a shotgun was staring me right in the face,” Clyde Hamrick says.
Thus began an hour of terror. The men, armed with a shotgun and pistol, forced Clyde into his home where they demanded a safe, money and medications. He believes they targeted him because of the handicapped license plate and ramp to his house.
“One boy was calm but the other boy was very unstable so you don't know, you just don't know,” Hamrick says.
Police stepped up patrols and combed the area for clues while neighbors hunkered down and worried.
The suspects are described as slight and about five feet tall.
Hamrick believes they are kids; dangerous kids.
“We are alive and I am thankful for that, but I have never experienced anything like this before in my life,” he says.
