Fire breaks out on University of Maryland campus
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - Officials have contained a fire that broke out in an electrical room of a building on the campus of the University of Maryland in College Park.
Fire department spokesman Mark Brady says firefighters were called at about 3:15 p.m. Monday to the J.M. Patterson building.
Brady says the fire began in an electrical room on the second story of the building and extended into an attic above the room. A sprinkler system in the building and firefighters were able to knock down the fire by 3:30 p.m.
Brady says the school was not holding classes because of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday, and only a few people had to be evacuated from the building. There were no injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
