Hollywood arsons claim four more cars
(AP, ABC7) - Los Angeles Police Charlie Beck says he is confident authorities have a man in custody whom they believe is responsible for intentionally setting 55 fires in a span of four days.
Beck tells City News Service that the man had materials possibly linking him to the fires when his van was stopped by Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies early Monday morning near the Hollywood border with West Hollywood.
Police say the man resembles the tall pony-tailed man seen in surveillance video near one of the fire scenes.
Officials released few details about him, but the man is reportedly a German native who has been fighting the federal government over his mother's deportation.
Fifty-five fires have been set since Friday in Los Angeles and nearby communities, most of them in cars inside apartment carports. The first night, 17 car ports and home were set ablaze. Monday morning, 11 fires were set just one hour before the man was taken into custody.
No one was injured but many apartment dwellers were forced from their homes. About two million in damages has been reported so far.
