Police have charged Henry Gordon Hutchins, 68, in the death of a woman he says was his wife.
Montgomery County Police responded at 2:49 p.m. to an apartment in the White Oak area of Silver Spring in the 11400 block of July Drive, said spokesman Capt. Paul Starks.
A man identified as Hutchins called and said that his wife was dead. Officers found a woman, believed to be 62 years old, in her bedroom with injuries to her upper body. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives interviewed Hutchins, 68, and on Sunday announced his arrest and charged him with the first degree murder of Carol Frances Carter.
Hutchins is being held without bond and scheduled for a bond hearing Monday.
