Infant girl found dead still not identified
D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier is turning to the public for information on behalf of the newborn baby found dead Sunday night along Channing Street in Northeast.
"If you know someone who has been pregnant and in the next few days and has not had a child and you know they were due to have a child soon, please find some way that you feel comfortable to reach out to us," she said.
It was an African American baby girl that a man, Emmanuel Dugger, found wrapped in a towel at about 11 p.m. As Duggar tried to warm her ice cold limbs, he noticed what he thought were obvious signs of trauma to the infant.
Despite Duggar's description though, police aren't commenting on whether the baby suffered injuries before she died. At this point, authorities have yet to determine a cause of death. Instead, they are simply searching for answers in what even they say is a tough case.
"Anything dealing with children, especially babies or elderly folks, are really difficult for us because they are the victims [who] can't speak for themselves,” Lanier says.
