Dodger, a long-lost Collie mix, and his family were reunited last week in Anne Arundel County after nearly half a decade apart.

Dodger went missing from the Willey family's home in Owings Mills while they were away several years ago. The family searched extensively to locate their dog to no avail.

However, on Dec. 27, an older Collie mix was found in Severna Park.

Animal Control staff members quickly located the dog's microchip, but after getting contact information on Dodger's owners, authorities were not able to make contact with the Willey family.

However, the microchip company had an alternate contact on file for the Dodger's owner. It was then discovered that the family now lives in North Carolina.

Three days after Dodger was found, William Willey and his sons were reunited with Dodger. The dog had a few cuts on his face and some missing teeth when he was found.

Animal control officials say that this case underscores the necessity to register their pets in case they run away or get lost.
