Seth Fisher shoots, critically injures self after accident leaves Brandon Herbert dead
A man is dead and another critically injured following a crash in Thurmont, Md.
At 1:57 a.m., Frederick County deputies responded to reports of a body in the roadway near Eylers Valley Flint Road.
Deputies found Brandon E. Herbert, 18, from Thurmont, lying in the road with injuries consistent with those suffered in a vehicle crash. They also found vehicle debris and skid marks close to the teen, but no vehicle on the scene.
After some investigation, deputies went to the house of a friend of the teen's in the 16000 block of Eylers Valley Road. They found a Toyota truck with front-end damage consistent with the debris left at the crash site.
Officials knocked on the door, but there was no answer. When a trooper looked in the window, he saw a man with injuries to his head. They entered the residence and found Seth B. Fisher, 18, of Thurmont, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.
The man was taken to R. Adams Crowley Shock Trauma for treatment.
"I was shocked big time," said Andy Wetzel. "I mean, we all knew them pretty well. He was a good guy."
Authorities are trying to determine if speed, alcohol, road conditions or other factors may have caused the crash.
