Mark Wahlberg apologizes for 9/11 statement
In the latest issue of Men's Journal, Mark Wahlberg exuded confidence when talking about being scheduled to be on one of the planes that crashed into the World Trade Center.
“If I was on that plane with my kids, it wouldn’t have went down like it did," Wahlberg said. "There would have been a lot of blood in that first-class cabin and then me saying, ‘OK, we’re going to land somewhere safely, don’t worry.’”
Fans and fellow Americans were generally appalled by his statement. One response on the Men's Journal website was from a mother of a passenger on United 93. She stated, "As the mother of a hero, I have always said that IF those on the other planes had the time and knowledge that my daughter did, their passengers and crew would have reacted in the same way. HOW DARE HE put himself in the company of heroes… playing one does NOT make him one!" Other comments were carefully written with chosen profanities.
According to ENews, Wallberg has since issued an apology.
"To speculate about such a situation is ridiculous to begin with, and to suggest I would have done anything differently than the passengers on that plane was irresponsible," Wahlberg wrote. "I deeply apologize to the families of the victims that my answer came off as insensitive, it was certainly not my intention."
