Business has slowed to a crawl, but now there's hope that a new push to put slots and gaming tables here will be the shot in the arm the track and Prince George's County desperately need.

VOTE: Should gaming come to Rosecroft Raceway?

When the Maryland’s General Assembly convenes in Annapolis next week, state lawmakers will push for slot machines and even gaming tables to be allowed at Rosecroft and the National Harbor.

County Executive Rushern Baker has said revenues from slots could help fund his top priorities - a new regional hospital and improvements on aging county schools.

If gambling is approved for the National Harbor, it could pave the way for a casino there. It’s an idea some county residents didn't like because of the congestion.

But at Rosecroft, slots and gaming tables are viewed as necessary for the race tracks survival given the fact business has been lost to tracks with slots in Delaware and West Virginia.

The debate comes just weeks after officials voted to lease $168 million worth of slot machines for the casino near Arundel Mills Mall. It's slated to become the largest casino in the state of Maryland.
