McDonnell to outline goals for Va. public schools
January 9, 2012 - 06:03 am
(AP) - Gov. Bob McDonnell plans to outline his legislative goals for Virginia's public schools.
McDonnell is scheduled to discuss his K-12 agenda Monday afternoon.
The governor has said that state funding for K-12 initiatives will increase slightly - but will continue to be tight in the upcoming budget cycle.
It's the first biennial spending plan initiated by McDonnell, who took office two years ago. McDonnell told the Virginia Board of Education in the fall that the state's schools should continue to focus on science, technology, engineering and math - as well as business and health care - so students can lay the groundwork for pursuing jobs in high-demand fields.
