Michael Clawson, 33, killed in crash on Rt. 7100
A man was killed in a crash Tuesday when he drove the wrong way on a traffic ramp.
Michael Clawson, 33, of New York was pronounced dead on the scene, officials said.
Shortly after 7:30 p.m., Clawson drove a 2005 Hyundai Elantra north on Route 7100 onto the ramp leading from Leesburg Pike to Route 7100 into opposing traffic, according to a news release.
He drove the full length of the ramp and got onto Route 7 east, but heading west.
The car struck the median barrier on the bridge over Sugarland Run Stream and then veered into oncoming traffic.
The front left of the Hyundai struck the front left of an oncoming Ford Explorer.
A 29-year-old woman driving the Ford was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors in the crash.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Solvers by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS/8477.
