NH lawmakers reject resolution on D.C. statehood
January 28, 2012 - 05:25 pm
WASHINGTON (AP) - New Hampshire lawmakers have rejected a resolution that would have supported admitting the District of Columbia as the 51st state.
District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray and members of the D.C. Council flew to New Hampshire on Friday to testify before a state legislative committee considering the resolution.
But lawmakers rejected the proposal 8-3, citing concerns about whether it was constitutional.
Republican committee members in particular were critical of the proposal.
