As the search continues for the person or people who abandoned a baby outside a Northeast D.C. home earlier this week, neighbors gathered Thursday to remember the young life.

Without even a name or knowing where the week-old baby came from, the Gateway community came together to pray for the newborn and the person who left her on a Channing Street doorstep.

"Somebody could have easily taken her in," resident Darnell Stuggs said.

It was no more than 25 degrees outside when the baby was left at the bottom of a stoop in the middle of the night five days ago.

Sharing extremely heavy hearts, the neighbors gathered Thursday night near where the baby, who they're now calling "Baby Shannon," was found wrapped only in a towel.

"I'm here to show support for a little girl who didn't have a chance," resident Keith Fessels said. "Life was stolen from her."

Emmanuel Dugger, one of the men who discovered the abandoned child, says that the process has been emotional.

"To see someone leave their child, it breaks you down," he said.

Police still have no suspects and are still pursuing information as to who may have left the child.
