Those banned include the son of U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. Michael Posner said on Thursday that the move by Egyptian authorities has raised concerns about the country's transition to democracy and could impact U.S. aid.

A person familiar with the case says Sam LaHood, who heads the International Republican Institute in Egypt, was recently kept from boarding a flight out of Egypt.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue.

LaHood's organizations was one of 10 raided last month by Egyptian authorities, who said they sought to determine if the groups were operating legally.
