WASHINGTON (AP) - A man arrested after police found a 13-month-old baby alone in a McPherson Square tent has been released on personal recognizance but ordered to stay away from the child.
Samuel A. Mack, of Forestville, Md., was released on Thursday, a day after police say the 39-year-old left the girl in a tent on a rainy day when the temperature was in the mid-40s.
U.S. Park Police say officers were called to the Occupy D.C. camp after other people in the park heard the girl crying.
Authorities believe the girl had been alone for at least 30 minutes. Mack was arrested after he came forward and claimed to be the child's father.
The child was turned over to the D.C. Child and Family Services Agency but is now with relatives.
