Searching for Vito: Search-and-rescue dog goes missing
A search-and-rescue dog has become the subject of a search tonight.
Dog handler Sonja Heritage says she was training with Vito, a three-year-old black German Shepherd, when he ran off to chase a fox and disappeared.
Heritage says Vito was about 300-400 yards from her when he disappeared in Whitemarsh Park in Bowie about noon on Thursday.
Vito doesn’t have an implanted chip, Heritage says.
His coloring is rare: black body and tan legs.
Anyone with information about Vito can call the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue at 703-803-2105.
