Stairway collapses in SE injuring one, trapping residents
A stairway in a Southeast apartment building collapsed Monday night, injuring a man and trapping several families on upper floors.
D.C. Fire and Emergency personnel responded to the 4300 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE when a stairway collapsed due to movers bringing in items that were too heavy for the stairs to support.
A man suffered serious but non-life threatening injures and was taken to Howard University Hospital.
Several families were trapped on upper floors while firefighters worked to shore up the stairwell.
