State Sen. Nancy Jacobs will run for Maryland's 2nd Congressional District
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - Republican state Sen. Nancy Jacobs says she will run for Maryland's 2nd Congressional District seat.
Jacobs, who now represents Cecil and Harford Counties in the state Senate, said Tuesday she has ruled out running for governor or Harford County executive and will announce her congressional bid at a news conference Thursday in Essex in Baltimore County. Jacobs has been a state senator since 1999.
She served as the Senate minority leader last year. She also served a term in the House of Delegates before she won her Senate seat.
Jacobs will face Larry Smith, a former aide to Republican Rep. Andy Harris, in the GOP primary. Democratic Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger is serving his fifth term representing state's 2nd Congressional District.
