Steve Chenevey hired as co-host at WJLA/ABC7
WJLA-TV has hired news anchor Steve Chenevey to be the co-anchor of Good Morning Washington and the ABC7 noon news. He will team-up with current ABC7 morning and noon anchor Cynne Simpson.
Chenevey, the morning news anchor on FOX5 since 2003, received Best Anchor Emmy Awards for the past two years. He worked for WPXI in Pittsburgh before coming to Washington D.C.
“We have been working to put this team together for quite some time,” said WJLA-TV General Manager Bill Lord. “Steve and Cynne did an exceptional on camera session together, and we believe they will be the team to watch on morning news for years to come.”
Chenevey is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Clarion University in Pennsylvania. He will start at WJLA at the end of January.
“I have only one goal and that is to make Good Morning Washington the #1 place for morning news in Washington, DC,” Chenevey said. “I'm looking forward to interacting with new viewers, and I want them to know that I value their feedback, that we value their viewership, and that we're here for them as their go-to news station every morning."
Owned by Allbritton Communications Company, the WJLA/NewsChannel 8 complex is also home to POLITICO’s newspaper and website, along with Irides, Allbritton’s web hosting and Internet connectivity company. Also under the Allbritton Group media umbrella are ABC affiliates in Birmingham, AL, Harrisburg, PA, Little Rock, AR, Tulsa, OK, Roanoke-Lynchburg, VA and Charleston SC.
