Whitman High School suspensions raise questions, anger
The principal of Walt Whitman High School has suspended dozens of students for drinking at a house party. And the action is raising anger and a lot of questions in Montgomery County.
Police broke up the party and issued citations, and some parents added their punishments for the what went on at a home where the parents were not present.
But after it showed up on Facebook, Walt Whitman’s principal suspended at least three dozen students.
Now, parents and teens are asking if the students should be punished at school for something that happened at a home.
And some parents say that the suspension on top of the police citations constitutes double punishment for one offense.
They also point out that students from other schools weren’t suspended.
But the rule is that it’s up to each principal to decide.
That’s not fair, say some of the parents and students.
