16-year-old charged for setting house on fire in Newburg
A 16-year-old boy was charged with arson for setting a house on fire in Newburg, Maryland on Friday, officials said.
At 8:11 p.m., Deputy State Fire Marshals responded to a two-story structure fire in the 17000 block of Rock Point Road in Newburg, according to a news release.
Firefighters arrived and found smoke and heat coming from a second floor bedroom. The fire was contained to the room and caused an estimated $15,000 in damages.
Investigators later determined the fire came from a second-floor bedroom occupied by Cheryl Docherty, the release said. Officials arrested a 16-year-old boy and charged him with first degree arson. He is currently being held at the Cheltenham Youth Facility, pending a hearing.
No other information was immediately given.
