WASHINGTON (AP) - A taxicab industry representative involved in a scheme to bribe District of Columbia officials has been sentenced to a year in prison for his role in the scheme which also brought down a top D.C. Council aide.

Abdul Kamus pleaded guilty in 2010 to charges of bribery and conspiracy to commit bribery.

He was sentenced Monday and will also have to pay a $6,500 fine. Kamus ultimately cooperated with investigators.

Money he gave to Ted Loza, then an aide to District of Columbia Councilmember Jim Graham, served as the basis for charging Loza with a crime.

Loza acknowledged in a plea agreement he had improperly accepted $1,500 in cash in 2009 and not reported it as a gift. He is currently serving eight months in prison.
