Two women were robbed at gunpoint in Northwest Tuesday night, police said. Minutes later, a Howard University student was robbed as well.

About 11 p.m., two women were moving out of a rowhouse in the 1500 block of 4th Street NW when two masked men pulled up in a silver car, pointed a silver gun at the women and demanded their wallets.

As soon as the masked men jumped back in their car, police said they drove one block to 3th Street and robbed a Howard University student who was walking back to his dorm. At gunpoint, they took his iPhone and wallet. Then they told him to keep walking and not to turn around.

"I think it's terrible," said neighbor Amanda Gholson. "This is a quiet neighborhood. Everybody is just trying to be safe."

On Wednesday, Howard University students were learning of the robbery.

"It is very surprising," said Howard sophomore Darryl Elder. "It is sad at the same time that we can't walk out alone. You technically have to find someone else you can walk with so you can stay safe."

MPD Commander Andy Solberg said the department is aggressively going after street robberies and urging neighbors to be on the lookout.

"When you have 11 p.m. at night, you have got people out on the streets and they are approached by armed robbers," Solberg said. "[It's] very frightening. We want to find out who did it and put an end to it."
