A 29-year-old man has been charged with setting a McLean house on fire on Tuesday afternoon, police say.
Fairfax County Fire authorities charged Chit Nyi Chitty, of McLean, with the burning of an occupied dwelling. Four people were displaced by the fire, which caused about $20,000 worth of damage.
Fire officials say they responded to the home in the 6900 block of Old Dominion Drive just before 1 p.m. Tuesday to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the second floor of a home. It only took about five minutes to extinguish the flames, and smoke alarms allowed the people inside the home to escape without being hurt.
Police say Chitty lives in the same block where the fire was set. He is being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
