The Washington Nationals made another move to fortify their starting rotation on Thursday, signing right-handed pitcher Edwin Jackson to a one-year contract.

Jackson comes to D.C. after going 12-9 with a 3.79 earned-run average in 2011 while splitting time with the St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago White Sox. After being acquired by the Cardinals on July 27, Jackson went 5-2 during the regular season and 1-1 in the playoffs during the club's run to a World Series championship.

In nine seasons, Jackson has posted a career record of 60-60 and a 4.46 ERA. He threw a 149-pitch no-hitter on June 25, 2010 as a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks. He has posted at least 10 wins every year since 2008.

The Nationals rotation could now include Jackson, Stephen Strasburg, John Lannan, Gio Gonzalez and Jordan Zimmermann. The club acquired Gonzalez from the Oakland Athletics on Dec. 23 in exchange for pichers Tom Milone and Brad Peacock, along with two minor leaguers.
