Ellen DeGeneres to critics: I'm gay and I'm proud
Daybreak Daily’s afternoon examination of the pop-culture world finds homophobes, a change of heart, other things, and the mystery music video.
ONE MILLION MOMS: And one Ellen, who struck back today against the aforementioned conservative socal-values organization, per the Los Angeles Times, “Ellen DeGeneres used her TV monologue on Wednesday to express her gratitude to those supporting her against criticism that JCPenney should not keep her as its spokesperson. She also reminded people that, well, she's gay.” http://lat.ms/z6npPE
MEANWHILE: Good read, per Rolling Stone, “In Michele Bachmann's home district, evangelicals have created an extreme anti-gay climate. After a rash of suicides, the kids are fighting back.” http://bit.ly/ArFZmK
SPEAKING OF WHICH: Scarlett Johansson spoke out Tuesday night in favor of President Obama at a New York fashion event, per the Huffington Post, “Change for LGBT Americans: The President ended Don't Ask, Don't Tell so no one will ever again have to lie about who they love to serve the country they love," Johansson added. "The President declared the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional. And he signed the Hate Crimes Prevention Act into law." Later in the night, Johansson spoke with the Huffington Post's Ellie Krupnick and pitched patience with Obama's approach to reviving the economy.” http://huff.to/w0v6pN
NOT SO FAST, SAYS KIM: For a change, she wants to duck the TV cameras, per PerezHilton, “Going against the grain and throwing a lot of people off guard, Kim Kardashian has her legal team working very hard to ensure her divorce from Kris (Humphries) is handled in private mediation — no cameras allowed!” http://bit.ly/AhTLZI
BOURNE TRAILER: It’s right here, per Deadline Hollywood, “Universal has just released its first trailer for The Bourne Legacy, the Tony Gilroy-directed spinoff of the studio’s blockbuster Bourne Identity series.” http://bit.ly/yp1kJp
KEEP YOUR MONEY: I don’t want it, says a certain ex, per TMZ, “Russell Brand is entitled to approximately $20 million of Katy Perry's fortune ... but TMZ has learned he will not take a single penny of it. Russell's lawyer filed final divorce papers Tuesday ... although the judge will make the divorce official on June 30, because there's a 6 month waiting period.” http://bit.ly/xSWK6r
VAMPIRE DIARIES: All you need to know: sexy photos, per Entertainment Weekly, “This week’s EW cover story also features interviews with Vampire‘s stars — Nina Dobrev, Ian Somerhalder, and Paul Wesley — who talk about keeping the love triangle red-hot, where they fall in the Stelena-Delena shipper wars, and all rumors swirling around their real-life relationships.” http://bit.ly/AEn7rf
SHE’S A GOOD GIRL: Um, just sayin,’ per Radar, “Kylie Bisutti’s dream came true when she beat out 10,000 smoking hot hopefuls in the Victoria’s Secret model search, but after two years of stripping down to her skivvies for the lingerie giant, the 21-year-old reveals that she is no longer showing skin – because it clashes with her Christian beliefs.” http://bit.ly/wqdQnw
ADELE: She’s looking to cash in this weekend, per the New York Times, “This British belter, a critical favorite and seller of more than 7.5 million records (hard copies and digital) in the United States alone last year, will surprise almost no one if she sweeps the big awards on Sunday, including Album, Record, Song and Artist of the Year.” http://nyti.ms/z3ECiX
POINT BREAK: Remember him in that movie? But, moving on, per TMZ, “Gary Busey -- who's starred in more than 70 movies -- has less than $50,000 to his name ... and more than $500,000 in various debts ... this according to official documents obtained by TMZ. (The) 67-year-old Busey filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in California yesterday.” http://bit.ly/xwNug4
