Fire at ShopRite at Orchard Center in Silver Spring
A fire broke out in a food aisle at the ShopRite grocery store at Orchard Center in Silver Spring Tuesday night.
Shortly after 8 p.m., the Montgomery County Fire Department responded to a fire at the grocery store in the 12000 block of Chery Hill Road.
When crews arrived, the store was being evacuated. The store had been open at the time of the fire.
Officials confirmed that there was a fire in a food aisle in the middle of the store. The fire was contained by the sprinkler system but the fire was still burning when fire crews arrived. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire.
There were no injuries.
The store will remain closed while Montgomery County health officials check the store to assess any food contamination due to the fire and sprinkler system.
Arson investigators were on the scene and the origin and cause of the fire is under investigation.
