Jeremy Lin inspired ice cream changed after racism accusations
February 26, 2012 - 11:00 am
Ben & Jerry's received heat for releasing a new ice cream flavor called "Taste the Lin-Sanity" featuring lychee fruit and fortune cookie pieces.
The Vermont-based company received criticism for being racist and has since switched the fortune cookie pieces with the less inflammatory waffle cookie.
The ice cream prompted the Asian American Journalists Association to give the following advice:
"There is no reason to relate Jeremy Lin to such food items as 'fortune cookies, take out boxes, or other similar imagery.'
In a statement, the company said:
"There seemed to be a bit of an initial backlash about it, but we obviously weren't looking to offend anybody and the majority of the feedback about it has been positive."
