Juvenile sexually assaulted at Ketcham Elementary School in SE D.C.
Police are investigating a sexual assault involving a juvenile at Ketcham Elementary School in Southeast D.C.
At about 4 p.m., a man entered Ketcham without authority and reportedly touched a student inappropriately, according to a spokesperson with D.C. Public Schools.
The student alerted a school official and DCPS immediately swept the building and contacted authorities, the spokesperson said.
All of the students were reported safe, including the student who came into contact with the man, the release said.
Parents were notified of the incident and were questioning how something like that could happen, especially during that specific time of day.
"You used to be able to send your kids to school and they were safe," said District resident Cheryl Datcher.
Datcher was picking up her goddaughter from Kethcham and was appalled to hear that another young girl was the victim of a sexual assault.
"I'm like omg, at an elementary school, that's terrible. I think it's disgraceful," Datcher said.
The assault occurred during the height of pick-up time when a man somehow entered the locked building. Once in, police say he inappropriately groped a female student.
Ketcham is located at 15th Street and Good Hope Road SE.
DCPS is working with D.C. police to review security measure and prevent further breach of the school building, the spokesperson said.
Police are still searching for the man.
