A school board vote last week means teachers could face a pay cut in the year ahead or furloughs.

The Frederick County Board of Education voted to take money from the salary fund to avoid raising class sizes.

Teachers have not had a raise since 2009.

Frederick teacher salaries rank near the bottom half of Maryland counties.

Superintendent Terry Alban says she worries about the long-term consequences.

She says there was an increase last year in teachers who resigned but continued to teach elsewhere.
