Severn home invasion victim shot allegedly with his own gun
A Severn man suffered non-life threatening injuries when he was shot with his own gun during an alleged home invasion attempt early Wednesday morning, police say.
Anne Arundel County Police are searching for the suspect who entered the home of an 82-year-old man in the 1300 block of Sleepy Hollow Road, allegedly struggled with the resident and then shot him in the leg.
Police say that the break-in happened at about 4:20 a.m., when the victim, who lives alone, said he heard a noise coming from the kitchen area of his home. When he went to investigate, authorities say he was confronted by the suspect, who had forced his way into the home.
The suspect and victim then got into a struggle, during which police say the resident was shot with a shotgun that is believed to be his own. The fight continued until the suspect was able to pry the gun away from the victim and flee in what police believe is a four-door, dark-colored Chevrolet truck.
Authorities are describing the suspect as a white man in his late teens to early 20s, standing 6 feet tall and a heavy build. He is believed to be wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with black pants. Anyone with information is asked to call Anne Arundel County Police at (410) 222-6155.
