The University of Maryland Baltimore County suspects someone may be infected with tuberculosis.

The airborne disease typically affects the lungs and can cause a cough, chest pain, bloody sputum, weakness, weight loss, chills, fever and night sweats, according to a University press release.

The person has been isolated for further testing. The school is also working to notify people who may have been in contact with the person so appropriate screening tests can be done.

Tuberculosis is very difficult to contract through typical campus life, the press release said. It's a respiratory illness that requires prolonged, sustained, close contact with an infected individual, the release said.
