VDOT closing lanes on I-66, I-495 for construction
To ease traffic congestion in Northern Virginia, VDOT is restoring Exit 49, I-495 south to I-66 west from one ramp lane to two lanes. A fifth lane along I-66 west will also be opened to increase capacity.
So starting at 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 until 6 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, multiple lanes on I-66 west and Exit 49, I-495 south to I-66 west will be closed.
From VDOT: One lane on I-66 west will remain open as crews restripe the pavement markings and move barriers to install the new fifth lane. All lanes will be reopened by 6 a.m.
Overnight detour: Motorists using Exit 49, I-495 south to I-66 west will be directed to continue along I-495 south to Exit 52B, Little River Turnpike east (Route 236), ride the loop ramps and follow signage to I-495 north to Exit 49, I-495 north to I-66 west.
Should inclement weather cancel this work it will be rescheduled for Friday night, Feb. 24 or Saturday night, Feb. 25, weather permitting.
