Victor Aldana in court Monday on manslaughter, drunk driving charges
The man accused of hitting and killing an 8-year-old boy in the Landmark section of Alexandria is due in court Monday for a preliminary hearing.
Prosecutors say that 22-year-old Victor Aldana had a blood-alcohol content of 0.15, nearly twice the legal limit, when he struck and killed Brian Hernandez-Chavez on Jan. 15.

Brian and his mother were walking along a heavily-trafficked portion of Duke Street that afternoon when police say the car Aldana was driving jumped the curb and struck them both. The mother broke both of her legs in the crash.
People from the area say the trek between Landmark Mall along Duke Street as it crosses I-395 is a harrowing trek anytime of the day.

"You're walking right on the side of the street," said pedestrian Scott Turner. "With this being such a heavy traffic area, you really (have to) constantly pay attention and basically just hope nothing is going to happen."
Brian was the first pedestrian killed in a car crash this year in Alexandria.
Aldana has been held without bond since the crash.
