Weldon Gordon guilty of killing Andre Hayes
WASHINGTON (AP) - A Maryland man has been found guilty of conspiring to kill a witness who was going to testify against him in a drug case.
The Washington Post reports a jury on Thursday found Weldon Gordon guilty of conspiring to obstruct justice by tampering with a witness and tampering with a witness by killing, as well as drug distribution.
The jury reached its verdict after a two-week trial and two days of deliberations.
Prosecutors said Gordon directed his girlfriend, Tiffany Reaves, to befriend the witness, Andre Hayes.
She then lured Hayes to a house where Gorton shot and killed him on Nov. 1, 2008. Gordon's attorney says he plans to appeal the verdict but declined to comment further.
Gordon is scheduled to be sentenced May 17.
