1,000-pound ordnance found in SE D.C.
March 21, 2012 - 12:59 pm
Construction crews were back at work late Tuesday afternoon on what will eventually be an office building and supermarket near the Navy Yard.
But for several hours Tuesday it was a very different scene in the 1200 block of 4th Street SE.
Bulldozers at a stop, Army and Homeland Security agents on hand and construction workers were left to wait after a 1,000 pound WWII-era ordnance found intact by workers digging with a backhoe
Police sealed off several blocks surrounding the area and restricted who could enter and exit nearby office buildings.
It was at least the 5th time in six months, workers at this site discovered a potentially explosive device, but today's however was by far the biggest ordnance yet.
