ACC Women's Basketball championship: Maryland set to take on Georgia Tech
(AP/ABC7) - One more win and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are the only things that stand between the Maryland Terrapins and their first ACC women's basketball title since 2009.
Coming off a decisive 73-58 victory over Wake Forest on Saturday in the ACC Women's Basketball Tournament semifinals on Saturday, the Terps will take on No. 15 Georgia Tech on Sunday in Greensboro, N.C.
Alyssa Thomas had 18 points and 12 rebounds to help sixth-ranked Maryland beat Wake Forest in the semifinals, helping the Terrapins advance to the ACC championship game for the third time since 2000.
Laurin Mincy added 13 for the third-seeded Terrapins (27-4), who shot 53 percent and controlled the glass for their sixth straight victory.
The Terrapins advanced to Sunday's championship game for the third time in seven years and the first since winning the 2009 title. Georgia Tech isthe tournament's fourth seed who rolled past North Carolina State in Saturday's first semifinal.
Chelsea Douglas scored 14 to lead the seventh-seeded Demon Deacons (19-13), who upset No. 7 Miami in Friday's quarterfinals. That pushed Wake Forest into the semifinals for the first time since 1988 and the third time ever, but the Demon Deacons shot 30 percent and couldn't re-create any of the magic from their big win against the second-seeded Hurricanes.
