Alexis Jarman injured: Town rallies to support her
The town of Boonsboro is rallying behind one of its own. Alexis Jarman - known around town as "Lexi -- was injured last Tuesday when the car she and her mother were riding in was involved in a head-on collision.
Lexi, 16, sustained serious injuries and remains at the shock trauma center in Baltimore. While she is listed in critical condition, a family member tells ABC7 that Lexi is doing better and is recovering as well as could be expected.
"Everybody is really worried about this little girl," says family friend Kandy Schisler. "She is so super loved and even people that don't know her what to help."
On Saturday, the small town is coming together in a big way for the Jarman family.
Restaurants in town are donating 10 percent of their sales to Lexi's family and almost all of the businesses on main street are collecting cash in these donation jars.
"As soon as she put it in a lady dropped a $10 bill right in and I was like yes - anything to help," says Boonsboro resident Debbie Griffith.
Home made treats are also rolling in for a bake sale - and many in town are flocking to local businesses to buy these purple "prayers for Lexi" bracelets.
"We were getting a lot of people coming in to specifically buy the bracelets and donate there," says Jennifer Guenther, another Boonsboro Resident.
In addition, Bonnies at the Red Byrd in Keedysville, MD is offering a percentage of their sales on March 19, 2012. Donations can be forwarded to Studio 3 Photography, 6 S. Main Street, Boonsboro, MD 21756.
While Lexi still has a long road to recovery - people in this town consider her family and say they will continue to do anything to help.
"We gotta do what we can to try and help the people that need help, Griffith says. "That's what we do here"
