Andrew Ramos and Christopher Edwards are quoted in charging documents as telling police they were merely trying to scare a friend with a loaded rifle that they expected to malfunction. 

Ramos told The Washington Post he feels bad about what happened. Ramos is charged with reckless endangerment in the death of Hugo Yupe, who was shot Wednesday inside an Aspen Hill home.

Edwards is charged with second-degree murder and reckless endangerment and was ordered held Friday on $250,000 bond.

The men told police they had been playing with a rifle that made a loud bang but did not fire a bullet.

They say Edwards then tried to scare Yupe, but the gun fired.
