A Germantown man was sentenced Monday to 14 months in jail stemming from a February 2011 hit-and-run on the Key Bridge.

Anthony L. Randolph, 41, pleaded guilty in November to charges of negligent homicide, operating while impaired and leaving the scene of a crash in the hit-and-run death of 23-year-old Eliester Pineda-Medrano on Feb. 27 of last year.

Prosecutors say that Randolph, who had consumed alcohol at an area bar before getting behind the wheel of his car, struck and killed Pineda-Medrano while he was walking his disabled moped across the bridge that connects Rosslyn to Georgetown.

Police said that on the night of the crash, Pineda-Medrano, who worked as a runner at two Georgetown restaurants, was walking his broken-down moped across the bridge while cars moved to the left to get around him. Randolph did not notice him though, police say, and the collision sent him onto the hood of his car.

Instead of stopping to help, though, police say Randolph fled. He was later caught by Maryland State Police on I-270 in Maryland driving without a right front tire and with his airbag deployed.

Pineda-Medrano, meanwhile, was taken to George Washington Hospital following the crash, where he later died.
