New Orleans Saints approach Bill Parcells about coaching job, report says
Bill Parcells has reportedly been contacted to replace Sean Payton as the head coach of the New Orleans Saints for the 2012 season, ESPN's Chris Mortenson says.
Mortenson reports that Payton, who was suspended last week for the entire season, reached out to Super Bowl champion head coach last week.
Payton was suspended last Wednesday by the NFL for his role in the bounty scandal the franchise has admitted to being a part of. Gregg Williams, the defensive coordinator who ran the program which paid players for injuring opponents, has been suspended indefinitely by the league.
Mickey Loomis, the team's general manager, and another coach were also suspended for a portion of the 2012 season. The franchise was also fined and stripped of draft picks.
Parcells last coached in the NFL in 2006, his last of four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys. He was the coach of the New York Giants in in 1986 and 1990 when the team won the Super Bowl.
