Body found inside burning car in Fort Washington
Prince George’s County police discovered a body inside a burning vehicle in Fort Washington early Wednesday morning, police say.
The body was found with multiple gunshot wounds in a vehicle in the parking lot of the Berkshire Apartment complex, located in the 1100 block of Palmer Road. The victim was identified as 33 year-old Marcellus Jermaine Jackson.
Police say they received reports of gunshots around 1 a.m. When officers responded to the scene, they saw a body inside a burning car. Officers dragged the body from the vehicle and tried to put out the flames, but were unable to do so. The fire department was then called in to extinguish the blaze.
Police say they do not believe the car was intentionally set on fire. Rather, they say, the victim was shot multiple times then the car rolled back, jumped a curb, ending up in a wooded area, where the vehicle was ignited by dry leaves.
Residents tell ABC7 News they were awakened by several gunshots and saw the car on fire.
Police are investigating this incident as a homicide and are trying to determine whether this was a random shooting and if the victim lives in the neighborhood.
