Children up to the age of 14 in the north-eastern city of Vitoria da Conquista have had electronic chips implanted into their uniforms to help work against truancy, according to RT.

At the beginning of the school day, the chips will inform the staff if the child is absent and will let the parents know by text message if they are later than 20 minutes.

The chips are placed under the sleeve under an inscription that reads "Education does not transform the world. Education changes people and people transform the world," according to RT.

The chips cannot be ruined through laundry or ironing and cost the government $670 thousand to design, according to the city education secretary, Coriolano Moraes .
